Once upon a time in a faraway school, I started my first Spanish class. It was all so exciting and new – I was learning a different language! Fairly early on in the semester,
I learned the Spanish word for
cat and asked the teacher, “Do the same words rhyme in Spanish as in English – like
cat and
hat?” Looking back, I realize not only how ridiculous this question was
but also what it meant for me personally. It was a wake-up call that each language has its own rhythm, personality and quirks, and I wanted to find out more! (In case you’re wondering, no –
el gato
and
el sombrero sound nothing alike.)
After a few semesters of Spanish, I decided to start learning German, too, because – why not? I even decided to make them my focus in college, and I’ll never forget the aha! moment I had while
listening to German radio and finally realizing what
Stau means or the time a man I didn’t know but who would eventually become my husband sweetly explained what
süß means. An exchange abroad
really opened my eyes as to how much culture and knowledge can be discovered by speaking another language – the excitement of understanding the lyrics of a Spanish song, the pleasure of getting
a joke that only makes sense in German, the bridge connecting two cultures.
I still haven’t lost that intrigue for language and am sure there are others out there like me. So whether you’re a complete novice in English or just looking to improve your fluency with a native
English speaker, I’d love to hear from you!
Learning a new language can be overwhelming. My goal is to help you break that process down into bite-size portions so you can more easily navigate the language.
My first English lesson with each student is a
Meet and Greet, during which we get to know each other, discuss your goals and answer any questions you may have. During this lesson, we also lay out payment plan and your expectations from me.
For
beginners, I plan more structured lessons that involve learning basic English grammar rules and practicing vocabulary. For more
advanced learners, we focus on speaking English and filling in any grammatical gaps there might be.
For those interested in writing, I give regular writing prompts, which help improve your active vocabulary and grammar usage and help me weed out any weaknesses you might have.
Because I plan each lesson
individually, we can adjust your goals and learning process whenever needed and make sure you are getting
the most out of each lesson!
Hourly rates vary depending on your focus. Please
get in touch if you would like a concrete proposal.
